The Research …

Outside of the evidence we witness daily with our clients, many studies have proven the effectiveness of web-based therapy, online therapy and virtual therapy methods.

One of the most notable examples is this comprehensive study in which the authors reviewed 92 different web therapy studies and concluded, “There was support for the application of psychotherapeutic interventions through the Internet; online therapy was especially effective for treating anxiety and stress-effects that lasted after therapy ended and on average was as effective as face-to-face intervention.”

Further research and evidence suggests “It’s only a computer: Virtual humans increase willingness to disclose.” There has also been a direct comparison between face to face therapy versus remotely delivered online therapy, “Eight sessions of word finding therapy, delivered either face to face or remotely, were compared to an attention control condition comprising eight sessions of remotely delivered supported conversation. The remote conditions used mainstream video conferencing technology.”
